Continuous neutralization

Continuous pH neutralization systems

Automated, real-time pH control for sustained industrial flow rates

Actini CNS (Continuous Neutralization Systems) provide automated, safe, and continuous pH neutralization for industrial liquid effluents prior to final discharge. Designed specifically to treat wastewater streams from your continuous decontamination facilities, tank washing operations, clean-in-place (CIP) cycles, or other sources of acidic or highly alkaline processes, the CNS line combines maximum correction efficiency with minimal floor space requirements.

Thanks to our local presence in Canada, our continuous neutralization skids are designed to integrate seamlessly into Canadian biopharmaceutical, food processing, cosmetics, and research facilities. They ensure full environmental compliance with provincial and municipal wastewater discharge requirements.

Operating principle of the CNS model

Actini’s continuous neutralization system is based on a highly responsive, dynamic, closed-loop pH control system:

1. Inlet and measurement

Acidic or basic effluents (from, for example, a thermal decontamination unit or another process stream in the plant) continuously enter the equipment.

2. Initial pH measurement

Industrial sensors instantly analyze the pH value at the inlet of the neutralization tank.

3. Automated proportional dosing

The programmable logic controller (PLC) controls the dosing pumps in real time to inject the exact amount of corrective reagents (acid or caustic) required.

4. Rapid homogenization

Effective mixing within the polyethylene (PE) neutralization tank ensures an immediate and uniform chemical reaction.

5. Final monitoring and discharge

The flow passes through a final monitoring tank equipped with a second pH probe. If the pH complies with defined environmental standards, the neutral effluent is discharged into the municipal sewer system.

If a deviation is detected, the system adjusts or recycles the flow to ensure that no fluid outside of specifications is discharged.

Customization options and advanced configurations

To meet the specific physical and thermal constraints of your facilities in Canada, the CNS line offers numerous engineering options:

  • Plate heat exchanger: Essential if your effluents come from hot processes. It actively cools effluents above 60 °C (140 °F) before they are discharged into the municipal sewer system to prevent thermal shock in the sewer pipes.
  • Two-stage neutralization: Recommended for extreme industrial effluents. It neutralizes highly aggressive fluids (inlet pH from 0 to 14) and ensures extremely tight and stable control of the outlet pH between 6.5 and 8.0.
  • Dedicated electrical cabinet with touchscreen interface (HMI): For user-friendly real-time graphical monitoring, easy local control, and simplified export of historical data for your environmental audits.
  • Secure storage units for reagents: Dedicated containment cabinets and trays for acid and caustic soda drums to ensure operator safety.
